EA won't publish Crysis 3 on Wii U

'Purely a business decision' says Crytek exec Yerli

Electronic Arts has decided against publishing a Wii U version of upcoming FPS Crysis 3, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has said.

The studio executive was originally hopeful of porting the title to Nintendo's new console, but says that business reasons have prevented the move.

"There has been discussions between Nintendo and EA and Crytek, but the bottom line is that there is that there's not enough business drive in it," Yerli said in an interview with Digital Spy.

Crysis 3 is scheduled to release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in February.

Last year, Crytek's Mike Read told CVG that the studio was working with Nintendo, and that Crysis 3 on Wii U remained a possibility.

The decision to not port high profile releases like Crysis 3 to Nintendo's new system will likely be a matter of concern for the Kyoto platform holder. However, the 'business decision' may be more related to scheduling conflicts (Crysis 3 was not originally in development for Wii U) and additional costs associated with porting the game over.

"It's a purely business decision," said Yerli. "I'd love to see it on Wii U, but what I love to see and what gets done at the end of the day are two different things. Even so, I could initiate it but someone has to sell it, right?"

"If that business decision doesn't make sense, or seems to not make sense for [EA], it's not possible for us to make it. We can't publish ourselves, and that's the bottom line."

Last year Yerli said that an unknown Wii U game in development was being developed with the studio's CryEngine 3 platform.
