One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 Vita denied US release

Publisher Namco Bandai has said that the Vita version of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 will not be released in US.

The publisher recently confirmed it will release One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 for PS3 in Europe and US in Summer 2012. But the Vita version - confirmed in Japan - went unmentioned in the announcements for Western regions, leading to suspicions that the portable version may not be getting a Western release.

Those suspicions appear to have turned out true, at least for US. "Unfortunately the game will not be available for Vita in North American territories," Namco Bandai's US arm has told Siliconera.

No reason was offered, and it remains to be confirmed whether or not the Vita version will see a release in Europe.

Pirate Warriors 2 is the sequel to the download-only title developed by Omega Force exclusively for PS3 via PSN. The game crosses One Piece's characters and settings with the hack-'em-up gameplay of Dynasty Warriors.

Players can expect new areas to battle through in the new game, including Skypiea.

Sony chief executive Kaz Hirai has recently admitted that PlayStation's latest handheld has sold on the "low end of what we expected".
