Wii U Virtual Console announcement hinted by web code

Nintendo Direct site makes reference to 'GameCube' and other platforms

Nintendo looks set to announce a Wii U Virtual Console in its Nintendo Direct broadcast this afternoon, with support for GameCube games likely.

That's according to NeoGAF forum members who have dug through the source code for the UK Nintendo Direct page.

The site's code makes reference to 'Virtual Console (Wii U)', 'Pokémon Mini' and 'Nintendo GameCube' among many other formats.

Google Cache reveals that the references were only added to the source code recently, and weren't present when the Nintendo Direct page was first put online.

Nintendo revealed plans to bring the retro games service to Wii U earlier this month, with a representative stating: "We are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone."

Today's Nintendo Direct broadcast is due to start at 2pm GMT.
