Weighing less than two pounds and less than 14 millimetres thick, the tablet will be available in two models, with a 64GB version costing $899 and a 128GB one $999. European launch details and pricing have yet to be revealed.

There are a number of differences between Surface Pro and the baseline version, which launched in October and supports Windows RT, a customised tablet variant of the Windows 8 operating system.

Surface Pro will come with Intel's Core i5 processor, giving it a graphics boost for its 10.6" 16:9 ClearType display that runs at a 1920x1080 full HD resolution. It also includes a USB 3.0 port and a Mini DisplayPort that can drive an external display up to 2560X1440 resolution. The tablet supports pen input too.

Microsoft is also set to more than double the markets in which Surface Windows RT is available over the "coming weeks" by launching the tablet in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
