Nintendo has announced that a new 3D Mario action game and Mario Kart title are in development for Wii U.
Speaking during a Nintendo Direct broadcast this afternoon, company president Satoru Iwata revealed that both games will appear in playable form at this year's E3 in June.
The exec said fans would have to wait until then to discover how the flagship franchises have "evolved" on Wii U.
The 3D Mario title is in development at Nintendo EAD Tokyo, the studio behind Super Mario Galaxy and more recently Super Mario 3D Land.
Nintendo has also confirmed that the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash Bros. will appear at E3 - but only in image form. Development is on track but "more time is needed," it said.
