Publishing label 2K Sports is expected to announce a lucrative partnership with wrestling corporation WWE.
An asset sale of bankrupt publisher THQ resulted in the sale of the WWE game licence to another company, bringing an end to a business partnership that lasted more than ten years.
Both companies have declined to comment but an announcement is expected soon.
In a message to its followers on Twitter the WWE assured that more games projects were in the pipeline but did not offer further details.
We don't have any details to share yet, but there WILL continue to be WWE Games. Stay tuned for more information and some exciting news!— WWE Games (@WWEgames) January 23, 2013
2K Sports is a subsidiary of Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two. The games label is responsible for titles from popular American sports franchises such as Major League Baseball and NHL.
It is not known what the deal will mean for Yuke's - a Japan based studio that has developed the WWE games for more than a decade in partnership with THQ.
