ZombiU dev wanted 'more melee weapons' in final game

Lead writer talks post-release regrets

ZombiU lead writer and story designer has singled out the lack of melee weapon variety as her sole, post-release regret.

Speaking to Game Informer, Gabrielle Shrager admitted she would have liked to add variety in combat beyond the standard cricket bat.

"More melee weapons would be one of the first things on our list," Shrager said, when asked if there was anything she would have improved in the Wii U launch title. "Give me a halberd to keep those zombies back! The pickings in the Tower of London's armory would feel like Christmas!"

Speaking about the lone cricket bat, Shrager said that it was "designed to be used almost as a last resort".

"Players quickly learn that it won't save their bacon against more than one zombie at a time. Some players depend on it entirely instead of scavenging for ammo and new hear, and these players deserve a richer melee experience."

More melee weapons weren't the only things left out of ZombiU: Guillaume Brunier said last week that co-op was left out of the final game due to time constraints.
