Sega has released a new Aliens: Colonial Marines trailer focused on the tactical options Gearbox is serving up in the shooter's multiplayer modes.
Featuring a squad of marines facing off against a team of xenomorphs, the latest footage showcases the various weapons and specialities each side can use in online battles.
When it comes to the element of surprise the xenomorphs would appear to have the upper hand. Using multi-surface movement capabilities they can camouflage themselves on walls in order to attack marines when they least expect it.
Their ability to emit thick clouds of smoke to conceal their position is also particularly effective in close quarters combat, and it's in these types of engagements that marines will do well to pack a shotgun. Marines also have the capability to revive downed allies to bring them back to the fight.
The Xeno Spitter's primary attack is to spit acid at marines from distance, a tactic that can be combated with the M56 Smart Gun, a long range weapon with heavy firepower, an infrared target-tracking system and electrical pulse action.
There's plenty more to sink your teeth into in the latest trailer, including the xenomorph special classes. The Crusher is protected by a bullet-proof crest that's resistant to most weaponry, and it charges at enemies with massive force rhinoceros style, while the Boiler has a kamikaze-like attack which sees it detonate its own head, showering marines with acid.
Sega has confirmed an Aliens: Colonial Marines release date of February 12, 2013 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Those who place Aliens: Colonial Marines pre-orders will be able to play as Aliens movie characters Hicks, Hudson, Drake and Apone in multiplayer, customise their marine's arsenal and wield Ripley's flamethrower.
