Rumour: Project Gotham 5 linked with UK studio

Microsoft is rumoured to have commissioned a new instalment in the Project Gotham Racing series for its next-generation Xbox.

According to an online report - since backed up by a Polygon journalist - the new PGR is in development and being worked on by Liverpool-based Lucid Games.

Lucid, formed in 2011, is comprised of almost 20 former Bizarre Creations employees, including lead programmer Mark Craig, design manager Craig Howard and development director Peter Wallace.

The company also plays home to staff formerly employed by Rare, Slightly Mad Studios (Need for Speed: Shift) and SCE Studio Livepool, including Collin Berry, the lead designer of WipEout titles Pure, Pulse and HD.

Further strengthening the PGR link is an image the studio posted on its official website this month, showing a London street alongside a road sign stating, "road opens 2013".

Any potential sequel would have to be built without series leads Ged Talbot and Gareth Wilson, who joined Evolution Studios (Motorstorm) and Sumo Digital (Sega All-Stars Racing) respectively following the closure of Bizarre Creations.
