The Astronauts, the Warsaw-based studio founded by former People Can Fly devs Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki, has announced its first project: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
The PC title is pitched as "a weird fiction horror" inspired by macabre tales from the early 20th century. Players take control of a detective with the supernatural ability to visualise scenes of lethal crimes.
While investigating the kidnapping of a young boy, the protagonist comes across the severely mutilated body of one of the kidnappers, unravelling a larger mystery involving ancient forces.
"What we care about the most is that the players feel like they're really there. Immersion is our number one priority," explained Chmielarz.
"It's a game about exploration and discovery. We're not abandoning the gameplay - on the contrary: we're trying to strip it down to the bone and make sure it's always meaningful and truly makes the experience better."
Vanishing will be available for PC later this year. Watch the trailer below:
Shortly after founding the new studio the group signed a long-term Unreal Engine licensing agreement.
