The PlayStation 4 may support cross-platform interactivity, a new report claims.

According to Wall Street Journal sources, Sony's new console will introduce cross-platform play, meaning the console may interact with other hardware including smartphones.

This is likely to include the PS Vita - which already interacts with the PS3 - though may also extend to Sony smartphone devices.

The report, which cites "people familiar with Sony's plans", also corroborates other PS4 rumors including the extent to which the console will implement Gaikai technology, and the integration of achievements with Facebook and Twitter.

Images of a supposed PS4 prototype controller surfaced online late last week. Sony's plans for PS4 are expected to be outlined at the PlayStation Meeting event, which takes place tomorrow in New York (or Thursday morning in the Southern hemisphere).
