Red Ninja: End of Honor announced

VU Games today has announced Red Ninja: End of Honor, an action-adventure game that finds players following the way of the ninja in Feudal Japan. The title is being developed by Tranji, a new studio formed by Japanese developers New Corporation and Opus, and is due for release on PS2 and Xbox in Autumn 2004.

Red Ninja: End of Honor is said to offer "authentic ninja gameplay" [having never actually been ninjas we'll have to take VU Games' word for it] and will combine elements of action, adventure, stealth and, oddly, seduction.

Featuring a story penned by Japanese movie director Shinsuke Sato, Red Ninja finds players acting all trumped-up and ninja-fashion as stealth mistress Kurenai. Set against a backdrop of 16th century internal conflict between Japanese clans, the story essentially deals with Kurenai's quest to destroy the Black Lizard Clan and, here's an old chestnut, avenge her father's death.

As well as being a lethal combat chick - Kurenai's favoured weapon is the Testsugen (some kind of wire weapon apparently), but she's also adept with the likes of blowguns, smoke bombs and rocket explosives - Kurenai is also a bit of a flexible lass. While not doubt making her popular with the lads, this trait also allows her to escape from small enclosures - she can dislocate her joints. The ninja art of disguise and distractive seduction techniques also form part of her extensive repertoire.

As play progresses, Kurenai will develop her powers as a Kunoichi (female assassin), this enhancing her ability to control and manipulate enemies with her Ninjutsu powers.
