Exclusive: Illusion clarifies Hidden & Dangerous 2 co-op

Hidden & Dangerous 2 developer Illusion Softworks has confirmed with us that it is currently working on a co-operative multiplayer mode for its well-received World War II squad-based shooter. But, if dedicated fans have tears then prepare to shed them now, because it might not exactly be what you've been hoping for.

Speaking to level designer Martin Babarik earlier today, following his re-affirmation that a mission pack is in the works, he went on to say that that co-operative play will be included in this forthcoming add-on for the title - however, he revealed that the anticipated mode will be restricted to the expansion.

"There will be a co-op mode in the mission pack, but just for the missions that are to be included in the mission pack," said Babarik. "There'll be no co-op play for the original game. It would be very difficult to re-make the current missions from Hidden & Dangerous 2 to use the co-op mode because it would mean making extensive changes to the code," he added.

Both good and sad news wrapped up in one statement; it seems we'll never see co-operative play for the original Hidden & Dangerous 2.

While reluctant to divulge specific details about the H&D 2 expansion, Babarik went on to say that it will feature approximately half the number of missions appearing in the original game (the original H&D 2 has around 20 single-player missions) and will arrive in Q2 2004.
